Dear Friends and supporters,
The Officer Jason D West Scholarship Fund has undergone some changes these past 2 years. Although we were unable to hold any fundraisers because of COVID, we continued to give out scholarships to young men and women who wanted to follow a career in law enforcement. Sadly, in 2021 the Cleveland/University Heights School District decided to no longer host the Criminal Justice Program at Heights High.
We decided to apply to the IRS and become a 501C3 organization. This was granted and this March we became a tax-exempt organization in Ohio. Our name is now The Officer Jason D. West Memorial Fund. We put together a Board of Directors with representatives from the residential, law enforcement and business communities.
Our mission remains the same:
– to honor the service and memory of Officer West;
– to encourage young men and women to consider a career in law enforcement and,
– to work towards strengthening the relationship between young people and the police
We want to hear from you! Given our mission, how can we best bring it to life in our community? How can we support and encourage our youth and police officers to better understand each other while helping them see opportunities for a career path within the criminal justice field? We welcome your ideas, advice and feedback. Thank you for your past support, and we look forward to doing great things together that honor Jason’s memory in the future!
This an exciting time for The Officer Jason D West Memorial Fund. We look forward to your input. Thank you for your continued support.
The Officer Jason D West Memorial Fund,
Board of Directors
